Description: “The Bird Seller” by Kronheim. It depicts a young lady being bought a caged bird, probably a linnet famed and preferred for their song. We assume the purchaser and donor to be the sailor boyfriend. They have encountered the seller on their walk from the sea port we can see in the distance. Happily, one of the birds seems to have taken the opportunity to depart! Mounted in a simple cream mount. Image size 10 x 13cm and mount size 19.5 x 24cm. Golden Frame Size 22 x 26cm. Condition Description: This is an authentic mid-19th-century Baxter print in overall excellent condition for its age. The colors remain vibrant, and the detailed imagery is well-preserved. The card border shows minor signs of foxing (light brown spots caused by age and exposure to humidity), which is typical for antique prints of this era. The frame and backing are original, complete with a Christie’s “New Hall Vault Collection” label, enhancing its provenance and collectible appeal. A really good quality example of Kronheim’s work and use of the Baxter printing process.
