Description: Here is a near pristine DOBBS Beaver Fifteen Brown Whippet Clone fedora with that wide brim and wide bound brim edge. The size is a perfect 7-1/4! See pictures. We know the tag states 7-1/8, read below.Because of the size tag and that thin plastic liner cover it’s easily dated between 1948-1952. Both dad and a collector who has a hat relationship with dad both agreed to the dating of this great hat. NOTE: shipping is a bit more expensive because this hat box is slightly larger than the Stetson 1950s burnt orangey hat box and shipping outside the continental USA will include the hat box! This is one time that dad insists that the box go along with the hat. It’s going to be a bit more expensive but we’ll worth the price! This was found in that 1950s DOBBS cardboard oval hat box (great condition). With hat holding insert set. Perfect for displaying and storing this great hat inside! NOTE: this was just edited to now include a coat trolley string. Dad has added a coat trolley string to the hat. See picture. This appears to have been unworn but there is NO possible way that it wasn’t! It’s just way too beautiful! This is a REAL LOOKER! With that beautiful matching crown band, wide brim, and coat trolley string (dad added the coat trolley string, read below). This is NOT sewn onto the hat but could be by any decent tailor or the end can be trimmed off and used just as an adornment. It’s pretty easily done.Dad has a few different color newer 1960s Coat Trolley strings that are listed here on eBay. They make great additions to any hat for that extra bit of styling. Write to us if you’d like to buy one. This one if free and included in this sale. This was DOBBS high end styled fedora to compete with the Stetson Whippet fedora. This has nearly all the exact same dimensions! It’s has a slightly taller brown though. These are so very rarely found in such excellent condition! The color is medium brown and first picture and the picture of the whole underside are the best representation of the actual color. We believe Stetson would have called this Chocolate Brown. We took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, 7X Clear Beaver, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This best matched up with the Twenty but dad says to be VERY conservative and state it’s a Beaver Fifteen. It’s not the thin lightweight material but the slightly thicker beaver and much much softer and pliable! The current shape was steamed into the hat. It can be steamed with just a center dent and then “hand bashed”. You’ll need to write and ask dad to reshape it though. Pictures say much more about this great fedora! We took all angles and this is also part of the description. If you have any questions or need another particular photograph, please write to us. If you look at that liner, you’ll see there is an early plastic overlay, you can tell this is from the late 1940s to very early 1950s because of the size tag. The late 1940s oval hat box with its hat holding insert set is included in this sale. That box is still in very good condition (just very minor paper wear), mostly around the top of the hat box, still very worthy of storing and shipping. The hat box is included in this sale! The hat and box have been together for so many years they will stay together hopefully FOREVER! This hat box is over 15 inches longNOTE a shipping outside the continental USA is going to be expensive when shipped with the hat box. If you want the hat without the hat box please write to us and we will adjust the size and weight for you so you can check the cheaper shipping price. This is an outstanding wide (2.5 inches) brim. If you have any questions please write us. Ok now the particularsThere was a 7-1/8 hat tag (one of those oval brown ones that was not attached to the hat but laying inside the box) but somewhere between the home and taking it outside to take pictures it’s been lost. If we do find it we will place it back inside the hat box. We had just placed it under the leather sweatband for the pictures. These old vintage hat were manufactured at a time when there was NO hat size standardization. That was started in the 1970s and agreed upon to use the Tilley Hat Sizing Chart. Mostly still in use today. We measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, tagged or not. This measured to a perfect 7-1/4 at 22-3/4 inches! Since the leather sweatband is still in excellent pristine condition any good hatter could stretch this to a 7-3/8. Color Brown Size 7-1/4 or 22-3/4 inches or 58 Length 13 inches Width 11.7 inches 5.4 Height inches, at the highest point Wide Brim width 2.5 inches Matching Grosgrain ribbon 1.9 inches wide Matching coat trolley string that dad added from his dead stock. It is NOT sewn to the fedora but could be by any decentTailor THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL HAT! Everyone will turn heads for this hat! We Carefully packaged and ships though Fedex.Local pickup is always free.
