The unit could be dipped in evaporust or some solution to strip away the Rust if you feel necessary, but it does move freely as is. I have not actually used this particular tenon cutter. Most of the leaves need some finessing to get running optimum shape.. typically Vuse will cut from 1/2 to 1 inch spoke tenons , look closely at pictures thanks again
