Description: Vintage Craig Reel To Real Tape Recorder Model 2108 in Original Box Includes: original microphone (I did not test this), 9508 telephone adapter (for recording phone conversations), AC adapter model # 9211A and tape splicer. Also, there are eight tapes that were recorded by a Captain in the Air Force (he was in the JAG office, I think) and sent back home to his family in Colorado. I listened to a few minutes of them and there is some interesting commentary on political issues of the day. I think the postmarks on these tapes are 1959. You can hear a few seconds on the attached video where he is discussing a labor strike in Okinawa, Japan. I plugged in the tape player and the Play / REW / FF functions all work intermittently. It doesn't always keep the reels moving at the correct speed. I would think the belts need to be replaced. Also, the volume does not stay at a consistent level and the control knob creates static when adjusted. I did NOT test the microphone or the telephone adapter cord. I also did NOT test it using DC batteries - it takes 6 "C" cell batteries which are not included. Very interesting old item, and, who knows what might be on all of those tapes (the 1960 JFK / Richard Nixon campaign would have been going on at the time these tapes were made). You can see the Air Force Captains name on the tapes in the pictures. A little research might turn up some clues of what the content could be. I will carefully package, double-box, and ship this item within 24 hours so you have it quickly!
