Reverse: Archbishop of Reims anoints kneeling King at Coronation as dignitaries witness. Legend REX CAROLUS COELESTI OLEO UNCTUS above with six additional lines of text in exergue. Signed BARRE FT. / DE PUYMAURIN N.P. to left and right. Plain edge original strike. This medal is an original period medal not re-strikes. Ref: Eng 2115 Engraver : Jean-Auguste Barre, French sculptor, was born on September 25, 1811, in Paris He first studied with his engraver father (general coin engraver), then entered the Ecole des Beaux-arts in Paris where he was a student of Jean Pierre Cortot. Never competed for the Prix de Rome He was admitted to the École des Beaux-arts in 1826 and began at the Salon in 1831. Barre was named knight of the Legion of Honor in 1852. Recognized, he is the author of numerous portraits of personalities of the Second Empire, he created 26 busts of Napoleon III He was decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1852.
