Description: A vintage polychrome lacquer figure – laughing Buddha – with a great big smile on his face. Standing on a carved rock-like base he is finished in typical lacquer colours of figures from Foochow. He has a large hat, which symbolises a long and happy life, hanging on the handle of a fly-whisk; the fly-whisk is said to symbolise ‘sweeping away ignorance and mental afflictions’. In his left hand he is holding a golden ‘wealth ball’. The figure measures approx 25cm high x 12.5cm base diameter (at the longest point). The figure is in very good condition: slight wear to the gold wealth ball where it has been rubbed to attract prosperity: small wood age crack to the back of his head & small repair to front top staff not very noticeable – please see all 12 picture images.
