Description: Weil Ware Vintage California Art Pottery. Hand painted tulip shaped vase adorned with a Ming tree in pink. Pink foliage areas are represented by a texture comprised of ground pink pebbles. Hand written 1926, 23 stamp, and Weil Ware burro logo and printed information on bottom of vase under clear glaze top coat. Grey glaze is crackled. May be the original design. May be a patina that comes with age. Unsure, but either way adds to it's beauty. Weil of California was founded by Max Weil and was initially called California Figurine Company. They operated out of Los Angeles, CA from sometime in the 1930’s to 1946. In 1946 the company moved its operations to Pasadena, CA and changed its name to Weil of California. Weil made a variety of pottery items, including “Weil Ware,” giftware, artware, tableware, and figurines.Weil Ware (1946-1955)Weil pieces are stamped with a logo that includes a burro, and are twice removed from Santa Catalina Island pottery (through Gladding McBean Catalina Pottery). A few Catalina Pottery molds were adopted by Weil. Max Weil died in 1954, and former Gladding McBean employees Frederick and Mary Grant took over his short-lived business.WEIL WARE VASE - HAND DECORATED - MADE IN CALIFORNIA - MID CENTURY
