Description: Robert Mayokok (1903-1983) was a native Alaskan artist, writer and adventurer. He was a prolific and enterprising artist and reindeer trainer; he had a number of interesting occupations and was well-traveled. During the fifties and sixties, he was the resident artist at the Alaska Treasure Shop where his sketches were commercially produced on pottery and china. By his own account, he produced 2000 to 3000 drawings per year. Based on his original drawings from the 1940s-1950s, these souvenir art plates were sold at the Alaska Treasure Shop to locals and visitors alike. This plate depicts a native Eskimo polar bear hunt and is in very good condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks and minimal surface wear; gold-gilded edge is intact. Original plate wall mount hanger is included. Please refer to the photographs for appearance and condition. Please contact seller with any questions prior to completing transaction. eBay requires sales tax to be collected, if applicable. Insurance optional but highly suggested.
