Description: Plique à Jour Enamel Vintage Costume Butterfly Brooch Lovely quality, vintage butterfly costume brooch featuring Plique à jour style enamelling in an openwork, gold tone setting. Plique à jour means 'letting in daylight' in French, a style of enamelling that was popular during the Art Nouveau period. The technique creates a stained-glass-like effect & the jewellery made with plique à jour often has a luminous quality because light is able to penetrate the piece from the front and back. This later revival piece is in very good condition with very minimal wear and a secure rollover clasp that holds as it should. 4.8cmL x 4.3cmW.
