Description: Up for bid is an original vintage pre-owned Beaded Jaguar Head Wall Hanging by a Handmade Huichol Artist. Found at a family estate sale of a world traveler. The family stated that their grandmother made frequent trips to Mexico between 1980-90s and would purchase Beaded artwork by the Huichol people. This is a Huichol Beaded Jaguar Head that was Handmade by a Huichol Artist. The jaguar is known by the Huichol people is a powerful animal and is often associated with strength, bravery, and protection. It can also represent mystery and the unknown, due to its nocturnal nature. Beads were applied with a beeswax and a resin mixture. The jaguar is made of wood, then it’s covered with beeswax and finally, the beads are attach bead by bead with no previous design, only the Huichol artist’s own creativity and talent that guides them. An original one of its kind. Measures about 6” long by 5” wide by about 4” tall. It in great condition and only been used as a display in a China cabinet. There may be occasional loss of a random bead due to age. Might have some surface dust. Huichol Bead Art: The Huichol people are an indigenous tribe living in secluded settlements within Mexico’s Sierra Madre mountains. They are known for their beautiful Huichol art — animal figures, jaguar heads, masks and ceremonial bowls coated with beeswax, then covered in tiny, glass beads. Hundreds of beads, set in place one at a time, produce dazzling patterns derived from their ancestry and spirituality. The creation of this Huichol bead art requires a great deal of inspiration, patience and concentration, all characteristics of the Huichol Indian outlook on life.
