Description: 1968 vintage Springbok "AFRICAN ANIMALS," ("Puzzles in the Round") art by Bernard Sargent, circular 20-1/4" fully interlocking jigsaw puzzle 6012. (NOTE: The box bottom shows a copyright date of 1968, while the box rim shows a date of 1966; almost certainly a misprint as we know the PZL6000 series started in 1967.) Wonderful illustrations of seven native African mammals, painted especially for Springbok by noted English wildlife artist Bernard Sargent. The accompanying descriptions were written by Roger Tory Peterson. Made in the USA by Springbok Editions, New York, under license from John Waddington Ltd., Leeds, England. Springbok's puzzles are famous for their unique die-cuts, sturdy pieces and clear, richly colored graphics. Within a puzzle, no two pieces are the same! Puzzle comes in its original round box that measures approximately 14-1/4" in diameter by 1-1/2" high. The completed puzzle is 20-1/4" in diameter. * CONDITION: This is an authentic, pre-owned vintage item that is over 56 years old. * It is 100% COMPLETE (no missing pieces) and is in overall EXCELLENT (pieces) to EXCELLENT (box) vintage condition. This puzzle has been very well cared-for and carefully stored. One of the oldest circular Springboks, it will be a special addition to your collection! * The pieces are beautifully colored, glossy, and in overall NEAR-MINT condition--with just one piece missing a minuscule 1/16" bit of graphic (see closeup photo 19). It blends in perfectly and is scarcely noticeable; but I strive for 100% disclosure:) There are no bent, broken, torn, or chewed pieces. To the best of my knowledge, there are no replacement pieces. * Please view all photos, including closeups, and note that everyone's monitor/screen portrays colors, light reflections, and shadows differently. * This is Springbok's die-cut DC502, complete at 502 pieces. The back of the puzzle is RED. Pieces fit together perfectly--a bit on the loose side for a Springbok--and the finished puzzle lays flat and smooth. * Box is in EXCELLENT vintage condition, sturdy and clean. A previous owner ran very thin clear tape around the bottom rim and up the side seam. Perhaps because of this, there are NO split seams. There is NO writing, stickers, or markings. Box bottom has very light foxing and slight shelf wear. Inside of box is clean. Please view all 24 photos. No weird odors; just the typical "old puzzle" smell from decades in storage:) From a smoke-free, feline-friendly home. * PLEASE VIEW ALL PHOTOS and use the "zoom" feature to assess the condition for yourself, as the photos are an important part of this Description. * HOW I PREPARE PUZZLES FOR LISTING: I personally assemble the puzzle. I gently wipe the box and pieces to remove any dust. I generally do not attempt to remove tape or stickers, as this can cause considerable damage if done incorrectly. I do not undo or reverse previous repairs. I check for possible replaced pieces, but these can be difficult to detect. When considering the purchase of a vintage puzzle, keep in mind that it may have had multiple owners over the decades, and passed through many hands:) * Please ask any questions BEFORE bidding or purchasing. * DISCLAIMER: Contains small parts. As with all children's products, adult supervision is required. Products that contain small parts may pose a choking hazard and should not be used by children under 3.
