Description: Vintage 1966 Mary Martin Tells the Story and Sings the Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music", 33RPM 12" Vinyl LP and Storybook, ST 3936 Mary Martin (December 1, 1913 – November 3, 1990) was an American actress and singer. She starred in many Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals on Broadway throughout her career - including South Pacific, Peter Pan, and this one: the Sound of Music, in which she played Maria on stage from 1959 to 1961. Because of the many stage presentation of the Sound of Music, and the enormous success of the motion picture version (1965, starring Julie Andrews), Disneyland Records added this children's storyteller version to its line of classic stories. The wonderfully illustrated storybook is staple-bound into the sleeve of the LP, so that both can be enjoyed together.
