A linguist’s dream, the languages herein contain articles and documents in French, Danish, Latin and English! This second issue is indeed apparently the remainder of the 1st edition with the addition of a 24pp introduction in French. Sabin refers to it as a remainder issue, with the added introduction making it the, “Fullest and most important work that has yet been published relating to the discovery of America by the Northmen.” It is comprised of a collection of original accounts in Icelandic, with Danish and Latin translations of those accounts, and “learned notes by the editor.” [Sabin 67471]Splendidly illustrated, this book dared to challenge the “Columbus s discovered America,” theme and is one of the first major works to put forth the concept that it had actually been discovered by the Northmen centuries before Columbus. Quite the notable and magnificent Capture of Tyme indeed!
