Description: Viburnum trilobum is a herb/shrub in the Adoxaceae family. A native to North America. Some familiar names include cranberry bush viburnum, American cranberry bush, high bush cranberry, or highbush cranberry. It is closely related to Viburnum opulus and is often treated as a variety of it. It can grow to 12 feet tall. The bark is gray, while the twigs are red. The leaves are broad and round, around 3-4 inches, and will turn orange-red in the Fall. The white flowers are 5 inches in diameter and are displayed in a ring with several sterile flowers around an inch. The fruits are edible and contain Vitamin C. They do have a taste similar to cranberries but are not cranberries at all. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with average water needs. Birds, bees, and butterflies visit it. Zones 2-7 Germination Soak seeds for 24 hours. Mix seeds and soil and moisten the mix slightly in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 60 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in a filtered light spot and kept moist. Seeds germinate very slowly regardless of when they are sown. Some seeds may take more than a year to germinate.
