Description: A very rare thing: an octagonal basket from the Northwest Coast. The hexagonal and octagonal body shapes are difficult to execute and are not often seen. Circles and ovals are the most common body designs. The basket could have been made by any one of the coastal tribes. Perhaps Salish, maybe Hupa. The basket itself is quite sound. Black and a reddish-brown color make up the side panel designs. The looped rim has missing pieces, in 5 separate places. Please view all the posted photos. This particular basket is from the collection of a local Indian Trader's estate here in New Mexico. They were in business almost 100 years. Please ask any questions you may have; I'd be happy to try and answer them. Shipping is a flat $24.50 via USPS Ground Advantage with a signature request attached to help prevent mis-delivery and package theft. Carefully wrapped and boxed. I value the things I sell. I know some sellers use Media Mail rates for non-media items. I won't do that. If the actual shipping is less to your location, however, I will refund you the difference promptly. Finally, if you have a moment, you might want to take a look at my other interesting to rare items currently up for sale. Thank you.
