Description: Very Rare Original Antique Ambrotype Photo in Brass Mat, HOLDING LARGE NANTUCKET BASKET IN HER LAP!!! DESCRIPTION: Great early antique ambrotype image taken during the heyday of popular ambrotype photography, c1850 - 1860. This ambro has great early c1850 appearance. Her hair is up, she is wearing a nice white wide collar, and is wearing a large brooch on the collar. The best and rarest part, however, she is holding a large Nantucket type basket on her lap. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE THIS. 1/6 plate size, in a 1/6 plate brass mat. Image is good, but a couple of small spots where the black paint on the reverse is flaked off. Again, image is on the glass, so can be repaired with additional black paint on the back, or by putting black paper on the back to make the image clearer.
