Description: Based on our extensive research, this is an exceptionally rare 1-piece Superman costume from 1940, marketed by Macy's Department Store in New York at the time of the New York World's Fair. The cloth costume (note that there is no cape) measures 16 inches from shoulder to shoulder and 44 inches (nearly four feet) from top to bottom. There is a tie back and elastic in the cloth at the ends of the arm and leg sleeves. The Superman emblem itself is in the same style as the one worn by Ray Middleton who was paraded through New York on Superman Day, July 3, 1940. We could find no rips or holes but there are some dark, shadowy marks at various spots which may have been from storage. The costume is guaranteed vintage and authentic. Not a reproduction or knock off. Based on our research, this one-piece suit is likely considerably more rare than the 1940 Macy's Superman suit with the running Superman on the upper portion of both legs. We have been able to find only one of these costumes that previously sold -- in 2013. We have included a link to a youtube video of Superman Day and Mr. Middleton's appearance.
