Vendome Rare Asian Motif Massive Necklace

Is what this massive exotic necklace offers.Our unique necklace, showcasing a pair of traditional water carrier figures against a modernist Chinoiserie pattern, is a rare Asian motif creation by Vendome. Most famous for stunning beaded jewelry, the company’s scant Asian-themed pieces from the 1960s, such as our necklace, are among the most collectible.How massive is it? The centerpiece pendant is all of 5 1/2” tall x 3 3/4” wide. It is a stacked presentation of golden geometric shapes, with a pair of Asian-garbed water carriers as the focal points. The pendant also has dangles made of lucite beads in pink and frosted clear beads.The top portion of the pendant has boxy open metalwork patterns that look like large Asian characters.Dangling from its base are a pair of diamond-shaped frames with twin water carrier figures etched within. Each figure wears a traditional Asian (Chinese) garb, complete with a conical hat. The water carrier has a water pail at the end of a wooden rod slung over his shoulder.Dangling from the bottom point of each diamond frame is a trio of pink-frosted clear-pink bead.At the top of the pendant, the same bead combination forms a swag across the boxy pattern.The pendant permanently hangs from a unique chain that echoes the Asian theme (the links look like bamboo segments). The chain plus the pendant makes for a length of about 35” long.The necklace has a spring ring clasp. It has an oval hang tag stamped Vendome on one side and has a fleur de lis symbol on the obverse.Our latest find from a Dallas estate is in overall very good to excellent condition. The textured gilt metal and chain are still rich in hue, with a bit of age-appropriate wear on some linkages. The beads are intact, with some a bit scuffed but still in great condition.
