Some Aspects of Water is a milestone in Geri Allen's career and marks her status as the first female winner of the prestigious JAZZPAR prize in 1996. She was the first woman and youngest person to receive the Danish Jazzpar Prize, and was the first recipient of the Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Jazz. In 2011, she was nominated for an NAACP Award for Timeline, her Tap Quartet project.
