Description: ■Explanation ◎「Peonies」(Signed "Hiroshige hitsu," with artist's seal reading "Yūsai"/Important Art Object) ◎The flower-and-bird motif is not a rare subject in ukiyo-e art. But many prints were either instructional drawings intended for the elucidation of botanical or ornithological information or were imitative of traditional Chinese or Japanese paintings. Even Hokusai, who strove for a fresh approach to this genre, was un- able to avoid a certain taint of Chinese painting in his bird-and- flower designs, despite the great range of his technical repertoire. This design of peonies is an outstanding example of refinement in bird-and-flower designs, marked by brocade-like effects reminiscent of the "brocade," or polychrome, prints of the later 18th century. The composition, line drawing and coloring (especially of the leaves) reflect Hiroshige's training under Õoka Umpō in the bird-and-flower style of the Southern school of Chinese painting. ■Size・Height: 36.4cm・Width: 12.9cm ◎When shipping, we will take care to avoid water damage, bending, etc. ◎No need to worry about shipping.
