A man is seen riding a donkey through the streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in this photograph from 1930. He is dressed in white clothing and wears a wide-brimmed hat. The scene captures the everyday life and local transportation of the time. The background features wooden structures typical of the region, indicating a bustling streetscape. The photo is labeled "Going to Town" at the bottom, which suggests a casual yet significant moment in the context of living in Haiti. The year 1930 is notable for Haiti, marking a period of American occupation that began in 1915 and lasted until 1934. During this occupation, significant changes took place in the country’s infrastructure and economic conditions. The use of donkeys as common transportation highlights the reliance on traditional methods even amidst these changes, as many locals continued to utilize animals for their daily activities.
