Description: USS MADDOX DD-731 USN Destroyer naval first day cover with a postmark from Findlay, Ohio dated Jan 9, 2022. Blue photo of destroyer off Hawaii printed on cachet #1891 by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. The cover was prepared on a un-gummed, archive quality envelope. Cover franked with a 15 cent Vietnam Campaign Ribbon stamp (Sc #1802) and 57 cent flag stamp #5657 (FDOI). Cover with a DIY matte and 5x7 frame, makes a fine gift! The destroyers USS Maddox and USS Turner Joy were attacked by enemy patrol craft in the Tonkin Gulf in 1964 and this led the US to start a full-scale war with the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong. See the web pages for details of the attack and the ship's design, construction and service history for the USS Maddox. Seller has covers for both ships. Check out my other items! These items make fine gifts when mounted on a colored matte and placed in a 5x7 picture frame. Free US Shipping!
