Charlie Surgical Company-1st Medical Battalion is a unit of the United States Marine Corps operated by the United States Navy that provides expeditionary Health Service Support to Marine Corps forces forward deployed to operations or humanitarian missions. The unit is based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and falls under the command of 1st Marine Logistics Group. COP SHUKVANI and FOB PAYNE indicate the forward deployment locations in Afghanistan. OEF indicates participation in "Operation Enduring Freedom" This challenge coin is struck in a proprietary alloy. Marked on the face: 1st Medical Batallion Charlie Surgical Company, and on the obverse: Camp Leatherneck COP SHUKVANI and FOB PAYNE OEF 12-2. Premium enameling on both front and back.
