Description: SCARCE VINTAGE ITEM!! I RARELY FIND THESE ANY MORE!!This is USGS Professional Paper 190, Lower Pliocene Mollusks and Echinoids from the Los Angeles Basin, California. Published in 1939, this is a scarce item. This 58-short book come with a great vintage fold-out map of the Los Angeles Basin, five plates of photos of nice examples of fossils from various locations in the area, and a fold-out chart of the fossils by age. This area has produced fossils of various types from a number of species, including some that are now extinct. The figures in the book show most of the fossils at their actual sizes, so these are good size fossils you could enjoy collecting and displaying. These fossils came from the Repetto formation, a unit know for oil production and some of the examples came from wells drilled in the area and helped correlate the units from area to area. The map of the LA basin is very cool and would look great framed. I'm not a fan of removing such maps from books but I recognize it happens and is a driver for price of these old volumes. This is a very cool publication that just might lead you to some genuinely nice fossil specimens. This is a scarce item, as I mentioned. Don’t miss it! Expert packing assured. The recent increase in postage rates was pretty big.
