Description: Up for bids is an authentic US Navy 4 Star Admiral demitasse cup (just one cup, photos are different angles of the same cup). Of course, a 4 star admiral is also known as a "Full Admiral" - the highest rank (that the Navy made marked dining china for). There weren't many full admiral's, so the dining china made specifically for that rank is SCARCE. Hard to tell the age, but it was probably from the 1940's to the 1960's. As is not unusual for a demi cup, it has no maker's markings on the bottom but the style of the decorations indicate that it was made by TEPCO - (the TEPCO factory burned down in 1968). General note on pattern: Other similar china with four stars - but with a long "launch pennant" - is the pattern made for the USN Captain's mess. While it happens to have four stars, they have no reference to rank. This is widely known, but some dealers like to try to confuse the long pennant pattern (Captain's) with the china made for an admiral's mess. There were many more captains than admirals, so real admiral's china (with a rectangular flag and 1, 2, 3 or 4 stars) is much more scarce. Item will be packed with care for safe transit.
