Description: Original period used Brass Coat button from the United States lighthouse Establishment. It measures 7/8" inch wide. It is backmarked Horstmann Bro. & Co. Philad. Used between 1870-1902 I believe. Purchased recently from the Bristow family estate in Middlesex county Virginia. The home is called Pleasant View. Two brothers that called it home served in the Lighthouse service. Richard F Bristow (1845-1903) and John P Bristow (1849-1892). They served at Bowlers Rock LH and Stingray point LH both on the Rappahannock River here in Virginia close to their home. Between 1880 and 1902, they served in positions as Keeper and Assistant. Richard was paralyzed at Bowlers Rock in 1902. The button is in good condition and has original patina. Any questions I am happy to answer.
