Description: Seal service kit for Ulka EP5 and EX5 model vibratory pumps. These pumps are common to many machines, from Brevilles right through to high end manual machines such as ECM, VBM, Bezzera, Rancilio, Lelit, etc. This kit includes the external and internal seals as well as a replacement ball for the pump's one-way valve. The ball wearing out is the main cause for pre-infusion issues in Breville machines. We have upgraded this kit and replaced the original Delrin balls with precision bearing grade balls. These are the same balls used in poly roller bearings, so their measurements are precise and the material is strong and durable. All our other kits that include this kit will also have this upgrade. If your machine is up to around 4-6yrs old and is losing pressure during coffee extraction or if there's no water from the group head during the pre-infusion stage, this kit should help. In this case, the pump in your machine should still have a while of life ahead of it and the likely issue is that the seals need replacing, particularly the delrin ball and the smaller EPDM seal. These act as a one-way valve and a water barrier respectively. We ask you to please consider this next bit though: These pumps have a service life. If your machine is older, then we highly recommend that the pump be replaced. Please check the manufacture date of your pump. If the manufacture date is older than 2018, then there is a chance that it could have a slightly bigger piston seal (the small EPDM seal), so this kit may not be effective. Vibratory pumps work by using a coil as an electromagnet to move a piston inside the housing. This acts like a plunger to move water through your machine by sucking water through one end and pushing it out of the other. The pumps do heat up, especially when used a lot, as they're constantly fighting the resistance of the springs inside it when in use. Over time the coils get weaker due to heating up/cooling down repeatedly. The springs in the piston chamber can also weaken, especially if you're not using filtered water. Once this happens, a seal kit won't help you. We have serviced many machines over the years and from experience have found that older machines with pump seal kits installed would often come back within a year needing a new pump after the old one finally gave out. In the case of older machines, a seal kit is just a band-aid solution.
