Description: U-2 Dragon Lady Flight PhotographSigned by 9th SRW Commander Richard Graham! The U-2 “Dragon Lady” is one of the few Air Force air frames still in service with the US Air Force. Developed in the earl 1950’s with slide rules and paper blueprints, its first flight was August 11, 1955. The U-2 was capable of flight altitudes of 70,000 feet, even to this day a remarkable achievement. Pilots must wear pressured suits similar to what SR-71 pilots wore. The U-2 was developed as a high altitude, long endurance reconnaissance platform. Essentially a powered glider, the U-2 is one of the most difficult airplanes to fly and with a bicycle landing gear, requires a chase car to assist the U-2 pilot with speed and altitude information. Despite these drawbacks, the U-2 variant is still in operations to this day. Richard Graham served not only as a combat pilot in Vietnam, an operational SR-71pilot, but also in June of 1987 the Wing Commander of the 9 Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California. He flew the entire SRW inventory of U-2,T-38, KC-130Q and SR-71. He logged over 4,600 military hours before retiring. Item is an 8x 10-inch photograph of two U-2. Colonel Graham has signed the photograph and added “9th SRW, Beale AFB, CA.” The photograph is in mint condition. By the way, the lady in the background is Col.
