Description: "The Quartet" - Oil on canvas. (Really, a quintet, but Anna called it the "Quartet".) An absolutely one of a kind painting for Anna Hunter, and an classic representation of the the musical arts in the old south. A treasure. I personally consider this to be Anna Hunter's best painting. Anna Colquitt Hunter was a painter, Savannah journalist and a cofounder of the Historic Savannah Foundation. Hunter took up painting in order to better understand her job as an arts critic for the newspaper she wrote for. She studied at the Telfair and was tutored by Augusta Oelschig and Rueben Gambrell. Hunter was the first woman recipient of the Oglethorpe Trophy for her work as a preservationist of Savannah’s historic buildings.
