Description: Presented are two Irish sterling silver bowls, dated 1966, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising. The bowls were made by William Egan & Sons and are not just hallmarked, but come with a paper label identifying them: “This is a piece of Hand-wrought Jubilee Year Silver (1916-1966) by Egan's of Cork, Wm. Egan & Sons LTD., 31-32 Patrick Street, Cork. The bowls are made in slightly different designs, both a classical Irish lobed form, but one with the more flower-petal like tips to each 'lobe,' very similar to some of the work of Richard Dimes. The bowls have a fantastic hand hammered finish that catches the light beautifully. The bowls are not identical, but have the same maker and other hallmarks including the Jubilee mark, so we are selling them together. Each bowl is hallmarked with the seated Hibernia mark for sterling silver, the harp crowned for the city of Dublin, the date letter Y for 1966, the maker's mark WE for Willliam Egan & Sons, and the Silver Jubilee mark commemorating the Easter Rising of 1916. These bowls is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each bowl measures about 6 7/8 inches in diameter and stands about 1 7/8 inches at the rim. The total weight for the pair is 472 grams or 16.6 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
