Description: Two 1949 paper drink coasters from the Coral Room at the Hotel Governor Clinton. Each coaster measures four inches in diameter and has a full-length portrait of George Clinton, 1739-1812, Revolutionary War hero, first governor of New York, and fourth Vice-President of the United States, from a painting by Alonzo Chappel. The Hotel Governor Clinton opened in 1929 at the corner of Thirty-first Street and Seventh Avenue (across from Pennsylvania Station). These drink coasters were saved by a visitor to the hotel in August 1949 who wrote the date on the reverse side of one of them. In 1967 the name of the hotel changed to Penn Garden Hotel. It has been renamed a couple of times since then. Condition: Both coasters are in very good condition, bright and clean, with no rips, tears, or creases.
