Description: What stood out to me was the passion of the Rays and their associates as well as my great grandparents for fighting for souls of mankind and their total devotion to the gospel. Mrs. Ray was sold as a baby in her mother's arms. It was first hand insight as to what happened to the slaves upon receiving freedom. They had no frame of reference as to how to take care of themselves or find the relatives from which they had been separated. We will never fully understand in this day and age the horrors and cruelty of slavery and the tearing apart of families. Comparing her book to the book written by the southern gentleman shows the naivety of the south of that time and of many now and not just the south toward white privilidge and persons of color.
