Description: TWA Trans World Airlines 66 ads 1944 - 1968 This is a great collection of over five dozen different full-page magazine advertisements promoting TWA flights. 30 of them are from the 1940s; 30 are from the 1950s; and the most recent are 6 from the 1960s. The ads measure approximately 10.5 x 13.5 inches in size. One has a very small ex-library ink stamp on it, but otherwise the group is in excellent condition. For over half a century TWA was the abbreviation for Trans World Airlines, but several of the oldest ads in the collection gives the company's earlier name, Transcontinental & Western Air, Inc. During most of the time represented in this collection, it was owned by the legendary Howard Hughes, and one of these ads mentions Hughes prominently. TWA eventually went bankrupt in 2001 and was acquired by American Airlines. The massive group gives an attractive overview of the company's public face in the middle of the past century. Some of the ads have a slogan, TWA Points the Way. Many feature the airline's Constellation Skyliners, and others show the Starliners aircraft. Many present an appealing view of air travel for families and vacation fun, while some emphasize TWA's global reach around the world, touting air flights to such foreign locations as Rome, Spain, Switzerland, Paris (offering a Gay Way to Paris), Egypt, Bombay, Lisbon, and Ireland. 20 of the ads are shown in the accompanying photos.
