Description: Designs by Dewitt. Clinton Peters. First edition. Large 8vo., original pictorial boards and pictorial title page after A. Brennan. New York: George W. Harlan, Peters's first book, written with Laura Ledyard, of whom we know nothing. There are roughly a dozen poems by each of them, reproduced in calligraphy, and illustrated with rather winsome drawings. Both calligraphy and illustrations are by Peters' brother D. Clinton Peters. Aged ivory cloth cover with delicate pictorial design of woman and blossoming branches on front cover; back cover with blossoming branch; both covers stained, soiled, and worn. Spine is mostly detached; binding surprisingly remains relatively tight and square. Decorated end pages; inscribed in ink on flyleaf in beautiful copperplate writing "To Jennie and Judson Wright, Danville Illinois, Christmas 1882, from their brother George M. Wright, (?) Belaire Kans. (?)" with various later inscriptions added. Some staining, especially to front pages, most pages clean and bright with minimal foxing. Please see photos.
