His specialty is large trout on small flies - and his Trout Crack is among the best patterns ever invented for that purpose. Trout Crack is a wickedly deadly pattern. It pays to have this fly in your box, and to often use it as a dropper. Use it alone or as a dropper. Any time during fall or winter, a Y2K bug or egg pattern with a trout crack below can be a strong producer - you almost never get the fish on the egg, but you'll hook more fish on the trout crack if the egg is there too. I believe the fish can really see the egg and come investigate without much intention of taking it, then as they drop back away they see the trout crack and nail it.
