Description: TODD HIDO (b. 1968), 'Untitled #10845-7 (Tree and House)', 2012/2013 LIMITED EDITION Excerpts from Silver Meadows Exhibition PosterOriginal offset lithograph poster modeled after classic movie lobby cards features an iconic image from the artist's exhibition, Excerpts from Silver Meadows in 2013. Printed on heavy smooth wove paper. Edition Size: 500. Dimensions: 12" x 16" (30.5 x 41 cm) sheet. Excellent condition (never framed or displayed). Todd Hido: Excerpts from Silver Meadows was organized by the Transformer Station in Cleveland, OH. The exhibition featured over 100 of the internationally renowned photographer’s most recent iteration of work. Hido's photographs are cinematic in scope, and offer a darkly dramatic glimpse into a world that reflects both the alienation and dislocation of suburban America and the inspiration of noir film and literature. Named after the faded Midwestern suburb where Hido (a Kent, OH native) grew up, Excerpts from Silver Meadows represents the artist's metaphorical reckoning with his own past. The presentation included an installation of childhood snapshots, newspaper clippings and other ephemera that served as inspiration for the series, further revealing the artist’s “trip through the innocence of childhood and adolescence and into the darker aspects of life beyond.” Favoring dramatic light conditions, Todd Hido portrays his subject matter when vivid evening skies or overcast weather conditions add a distinct sense of sentimentality. Employing a pictorial language that unfolds slowly picture by picture, the effect is astonishingly cinematic. Forlorn roads lose themselves in aimless terrains, while heavy clouds hover above. Barren fields and edges of dark pine forests underline the simplicity of the scenery, the emergence of occasional power lines or telephone poles serves as theatrical effect. An overall dark mood settles deep into the landscape, reinforced by the remnants of recent showers. Sometimes captured from the driver's seat through a rainy windshield, each work has a hint of the surreal. Drawn into this moody scenery, the viewer, alongside the artist, takes on the role of a lone traveler, who without map or compass is incited to contemplate what stretches endlessly ahead. While this Romantic concept of experiencing nature through the boundless emotional submission might lead one's associative thoughts as far back as the works of Caspar David Friedrich or members of the Hudson River School, Hido's process is unquestionably modern. Todd Hido's nocturnal suburban landscapes have been widely exhibited in solo shows including the Cleveland Museum of Art, SF Camerawork, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, and are included in numerous museum collections, including the Whitney Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as well as in many other public and private collections. Six monographs have been published on Hido's work by Nazraeli Press including House Hounting, Outskirts, Roaming, Between the Two. and A Road Divided. Excerpts from Silver Meadows, also published by Nazraeli Press, is Hido's sixth monograph. Aperture published a mid-career survey of Todd Hido in October 2016, Intimate Distance: Twenty-Five years of Photographs, A Chronological Album.
