Burgess Society. Pressed in 1986, there were 5,000 cup plates pressed. The design of the cup plate was originally created for the plaque at the entrance of the Briar Patch Conservation Area. The cup plate features nine of the animals from the Burgess books, along with the inscription "T.W. Burgess Society 1986 10th Year to Inspire Reverence for Wildlife and Concern for the Natural Environment." Burgess was the creator of Peter Rabbit and his animal friends in the Dear Old Briar Patch, the Smiling Pool, the Green Meadow, and the Laughing Brook. The Thornton Burgess Society, which ran the former Burgess museum in Sandwich, Massachusetts, sold coaster-size cup plates bearing the imprint of the characters to help fund the museum.
