Thich Nhat Hanh Original - Mint Condition - Signed - Calligraphy on Rice Paper

Description: Artist: Thich Nhat Hanh (aka “Thay”)Calligraphy: "I know you are there and I am very happy"Created and Signed by Thich Nhat Hanh, Pristine, mint condition, professionally framed under glass, original calligraphy on rice paper. I had the honor of being in the presence of beloved Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and the Monks and Nuns of Plum Village on October 9 &10, 2009 at a two-day mindfulness event: “Building a Peaceful and Compassionate Society” at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. It was hosted by the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. I purchased this while at the event to support a fundraising initiative for the Plum Village Sanghas. For more information on the event, please see photographs ofthe program overview and Omega news announcement in the listing. I also have my my ticket info from Ticketmaster. I immediately had the calligraphy professionally framed, and the piece was hung on my wall for a couple of months and then I decided to move. At that point, I wrapped it up to protect it, and have stored this beautiful piece of calligraphy art for nearly fourteen years. Back then, I worked in the software industry, but after I recovered from a health challenge, I embarked on a new career. Now, I'm a yoga and mindfulness teacher. At this point in my life, I have made the decision to sell this piece – and will forever be happy with the memories of my experience with Thich Nhat Hanh back in 2009. If you want more information or have questions, please send me a message. Here's some additional information on Thich Nhat Hanh Thay was a Vietnamese Thiền (~Zen) Buddhist monk, Zen Master, peace activist, prolific author (“No Mud, No Lotus”), poet and teacher, who founded the Plum Village Tradition and Monastery, historically recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism. Known as the "father of mindfulness", Thay was a major influence on Western practices of Buddhism. The Dalai Lama said he lived “a truly meaningful life”, adding: “I have no doubt the best way we can pay tribute to him is to continue his work to promote peace in the world.” Known as the “father of mindfulness” and a leading advocate of “engaged Buddhism”, Thay rose to prominence and was exiled from his home country over his opposition to the Vietnam war. After persuading Martin Luther King to speak out against it, the civil rights leader nominated him for the Nobel peace prize in 1967, writing that he did not know of anyone more worthy “than this gentle Buddhist monk from Vietnam”. Every calligraphy contains tea from his cup, which he poured into the block to mix the ink.On His Calligraphy (one of a kind originals by the Master himself): "In my calligraphy, there is ink, tea, breathing, mindfulness and concentration. This is meditation. This is not work. Suppose I write 'breathe; I am breathing at the same time. To be alive is a miracle and when you breathe in mindfully, you touch the miracle of being alive."Thich Nhat Hanh began to write calligraphies in 1994, for the titles of books, songs and articles appearing in print. Using traditional Chinese ink on rice paper, he developed a new style of Zen calligraphy in the western Roman script.Calligraphies such as "This is it, I have arrived, I am home" and "The bread in your hands is the body of the cosmos" began to be framed on the walls in his practice centres around the world. He used Chinese ink on rice paper sourced in Hong Kong and Vietnam, and brushes from Japan and France. Every calligraphy contains tea from his cup, which he poured into the block to mix the ink.Vietnamese temples have their own tradition of calligraphic art in the Roman Script. Thich Nhat Hanh's new style builds on this tradition with strokes that are distinctively bold, simple and free, incorporating Modern European elements, such as the gentle running 'r' from the French. This piece, like the others in the collection, is literally one of a kind, there was never a second piece made exactly like this one - like a wave in an ocean. And, as Thay passed away over two years ago there will never be another made. Each of these exceedingly rare pieces should only increase in value with time. Each possess unequalled depth and wisdom.Thich Nhat Hanh was an enlightened being who helped many people, transformed many lives, and nudged the world in a more peaceful direction. These works of mindfulness brought to life by a Master have and always will have so much meaning to whomever becomes their (temporary) guardian.———————————Bio | The Life Story of Thich Nhat Hanh (from the Buddhist monastery he founded and which is now “the West’s largest and most active”: https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/biographyThay’s pioneering teachings on mindfulness, “interbeing” and engaged ethics have opened new ways forward for meditators, peace-makers, activists, educators, business people and politicians around the world (https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/key-teachings).Letters from Thay: https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/lettersInterviews with Thay: https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/interviews-with-thich-nhat-hanh
