Description: The Works of Alfred Tennyson, Poet Laureate. E. & J. B. Young & Co., Cooper Union, Fourth Avenue New York. The Landscape Series of Poets, Gall and Inglis. 1870, first edition in this form. Decorative red cloth over beveled boards. Front board has an inlaid motif of an angel holding a harp, surrounded by gilt borders, floral patterns and gilt-decorated title: Tennyson's Poetical Works. Decorative blind tooling on the back board displays The Landscape Series Of Poets. 738 gilt-edged pages. Acceptable condition: front board loose and starting to separate from spine; back board and cloth on spine very loose, holding but separating; both boards and spine are worn, especially at corners. Two inscriptions on second free endpaper; rest of interior is very good, with a couple of folded page corners, no tears found, no missing pages, very little discoloration. Not pretty, but complete and, with the beautiful inlay on the front board, still reasonably attractive.
