Description: This is the story of a Russian Arctic expedition told by the men and women who took part in it, translated from Russian. In August of 1933, a group of scientists and explorers set out to discover whether an ordinary cargo ship could navigate the Northwest Passage. After their vessel was crushed to pieces by the ice, they set up a camp on an ice floe and were eventually rescued by Soviet airmen who landed on a makeshift landing strip carved out of the ice. The wreck was not discovered until September 2006. Good condition. Blue cloth boards have some bumping at corners and sun fading on spine and at edges of front and back boards. A little soiling on both boards. Binding is in good condition. Text is unmarked except for a stamped former owner's name on a front free end paper and a small penciled notation on back free end paper. Text is clean and bright as are the 32 plates, 2 maps, and diagrams in text. No dust cover.
