After serving as an Army Colonel in World War One, he worked as an Indian Agent, and helped provide Indian extras for the 1923 production of The Covered Wagon. This whetted his appetite for film work and he ultimately became one of the top Cowboy stars of all time. His legendary fast-draw was once clocked at an incredible 0.25 seconds.
