Description: THE OLD SOUTH or THE ROMANCE OF EARLY NEW ENGLAND HISTORY by JAMES O. FAGAN PRESS OF GEORGE H. ELLIS COMP., BOSTON, 1924 This is, to me, a most revealing, romantic, and fascinating history of BOSTON. THE OLD SOUTH in the title refers to THE OLD SOUTH MEETING HOUSE(1729) in boston. While the history and information garnered from this structure are truly fascinating, the book goes much further with short commentary on OLD BOSTON, its early development, its problems and how they were solved, individual contributions from important citizens that don't appear in the published histories, short vignettes about the role of our founding fathers from Massachusetts--also not found in the history books. If you are from Boston, you will delight in reading these historical achievements that provided a great deal in the development of Boston and its contribution to the development of, then, a new country. You are guaranteed to learn of new and fascinating achievements never heard off by some people never included in the formal histories. THE BOOK is a paperback (2nd printing) from 1924 and contains dozens of old photographs of historical sites in the Boston areas. There are 141 pages. While the book sound, it will need to be handled carefully---no, there are no loose pages and it can be read easily but the type of binding makes it inadvisable to open flat. If you live in Boston, close by or elsewhere in Massachusetts, you will enjoy this relatively scarce book.
