Description: The last written and sixth (penultimately) published of the seven famous Narnia books. This is the sought after first printing of the first edition published by Bodley Head in 1955. Beautifully and copiously (about 40 images) illustrated by Pauline Baynes, the artist who defined the Narnian look. This is the book that finally explains the incongruous lamppost from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. CONDITION: The book is about very good and NOT ex-library, except that the blank front endpaper has been replaced with a matching endpaper from a third printing of the same book (see photo). Boards are fairly clean, though showing a bit of age toning especially at some peripheral points (e.g. top end of the spine). There is a small patch of rubbing on the top edge of the page block adjoining the spine about 8mm in diameter. Occasional touch of foxing mainly amidst the endpapers. The jacket has small repairs to the head and tail of its spine and to the other fold corners. It has a bit of foxing and age-toning. Overall, a highly presentable copy of a scarce Narnia first printing of the first edition. The dustjacket will be protected in a removable, clear cellophane slip when delivered. The book will be posted in bubblewrap and cardboard layers to preserve its condition.
