From a vintage copy of Photograms of the Year 1951. Jozef Emiel Borrenbergen (Antwerp, 1884-1965), was one of the leading early amateur photographers in Belgium. He saw all important periods in photography since the turn of the century and adapted to new styles and techniques. He was the editor of the magazine “Fotokunst” (1924-1939) and presided over the Photographic CIrcle “Iris” in Antwerp for many years. His work was found at nearly all international photographic salons between 1912 and 1960. Borrenbergen had a special preference for and expertise in bromoil, medio-bromine and bromide. The Antwerp Fotomuseum dedicated an exhibition to Borrenbergen in 1984 and published for this occasion a catalogue of his work.
