Hardcover with its original, First State dust jacket, NOT price-clipped! Published by Hutchinson, London, 1956. Profusely illustrated with numerous photographs! Boldly SIGNED and Warmly INSCRIBED by the celebrated writer/adventurer/seaman! Along with the INSCRIPTION/SIGNATURE, the date "October 17, 1961" is also written! There is an additional signature, written in blue/green ink at the bottom of the first photograph. Despite our best effort, we simply cannot tell if the signature is an auto pen/stamp OR if it is actually signed by Creston Donald Ketchum. If the signature is authentic, then this lovely book is SIGNED twice! However, because we can't say for certain, we are ONLY comfortable listing this book as SIGNED/INSCRIBED once. A TRUE First U.K. Edition/First Printing with ALL First Edition Points present! This rare book has some wear, but is still in good, Highly Collectible condition! The book appears gently read and has no internal writing, no remainder marks, no missing or ripped pages and is NOT ex-libris or a BCE. The binding is holding tight and the pages are still surprisingly crisp! Some general/shelf wear along with a noticeable lean, bumping/separation/damage to the spine, sun fading/discoloration, wear to the corners/extremities, creases, foxing and wear to the edge/fore pages, NOT affecting the text! On the first blank page, where the SIGNATURE/INSCRIPTION is written, AND the last blank page, affixed to the pages/inside boards are a strip of white, strengthening paper/tape. This paper/tape was attached by the previous owner, and we considered carefully removing them ourselves, but elected to leave them to avoid potentially damaging the book/page. This page was closely photographed for your consideration/inspection. The original, First State dust jacket is fully intact and NOT price-clipped! Some general/shelf wear along with creases, chipping, discoloration/stains, and numerous rips/tears resulting in some loss of paper. There are also a few pieces of tape, most noticeable on the inside of the dust jacket. The dust jacket is now encased in a removable, museum quality dust jacket protector.
