Some of her verses have been set to music; others have been broadcast widely; one poem was incorporated into a Broadway play and later a Hollywood film. At one time she conducted a weekly radio series on modern poetry for Station WQXR in New York, and wrote a daily verse column for the newspaper PM. She has published fiction and non-fiction in many magazines and anthologies, and her work has been reprinted in England, France, Switzerland, Japan, China, India, and Sweden. She has also written poetry for children and is the author of a biography of Emma Lazarus.
