Description: RARE Belgian Original Release Movie Poster On Linen - The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951), Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, Sam Jaffe, Billy Gray, Gort, Klaatu, Robert Wise, Classic Science Fiction Here is a rarely seen original Belgian movie poster from the first release of Robert Wise's' science fiction classic, The Day The Earth Stood Still. The movie starred Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, and Sam Jaffe in a story involving an alien visitor named Klaatu who comes to earth to deliver a message that will affect the entire human race. It is thought by many to be the greatest sci-fi film ever made. This poster is from the original release of the film in Belgium. It has been backed on linen and looks wonderful with its beautiful original Belgian artwork. This poster is in great condition for its age and considered the holy grail of Belgian science fiction movie posters. It seldom comes up for sale or auction and would make a great addition to anyone's Sci-Fi movie poster collection. This particular poster was purchased at the Christie's South Kensington Vintage Film Posters Auction in March 1998. It was part of the Zreik Collection and is listed on page 112 (lot 593) of the auction catalog (see photos). DESCRIPTION: The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) - 20th Century Fox, Directed by Robert Wise.COUNTRY OF ORIGIN/SIZE: Belgium 14.5" x 18.5"; 15.25" x 19.25" (on linen)CONDITION: Very Good Condition On Linen. Prior to backing, this poster was folded as originally issued. The top white border may have been completely trimmed or a theater snipe was attached. l can't tell for sure. The two side and bottom borders are completely intact. There appears to have been a tear in the upper right corner which was crudely repaired during backing. There are also remnants of a blue ink stamp above the Capitol building probably where there was once a tax stamp. This poster has been stored flat for 26 years and will be shipped rolled in a sturdy tube or box.
