Description: The conference of the birds by Farud ud-Din Attar translated by R.P. masani Oxford University Press, 1924. Originally written the 12th century this is a classic Sufi allegoric poem. "The title is taken directly from the Quran where sulliman and Dawood are said to have taught the language or speech of the birds.. in the poem, the birds gather to decide who is to be their sovereign, as they have none. The hoope, The wisest of the mall, suggests that they should find the legendary Simorgh. The Hoopoe then leads the birds, each of whom represents a human fault which prevents human kind from attaining enlightenment." Light brown boards show bumps to the edges and corners, but the binding is tight and square. The FFEP has an inscription to "His excellency Dr Jalal Aladah ambassador for Iran in India, from R.P. Masani. The half title page has a tear at the bottom edge which has been repaired with tape, But the contents are otherwise secure,clean and marked.
