Description: The DVD is in very good condition. I will ship it in a padded envelope. The art deco-influenced backgrounds and simplified character designs of The Big O give the series a look more akin to Warner Bros.' Batman than to anime series like Gundam Wing. The story begins with a premise similar to A Wind Called Amnesia: the inhabitants of Paradigm City lost their memories 40 years ago and have since struggled to survive in the half-ruined metropolis. Dashing Roger Smith, who resembles Pierce Brosnan, is officially a negotiator handling difficult situations, but he’s actually a covert superhero. Like Batman, he is fabulously wealthy, with a car and wristwatch loaded with deadly gadgets. When things get tough, Smith summons the Big O, his giant "Megadeus" mecha, to battle other robots. His butler, Norman, and Dorothy, an automaton girl, assist him in these endeavors. At times, the cool palette, saxophone music, and suave-yet-tough dialogue suggest the filmmakers are aiming for the noir tone of Cowboy Bebop. However, the somewhat superficial Smith lacks Spike Spiegel's underplayed intensity, and director Kazuyoshi Katayama doesn’t quite match Shinichiro Watanabe's visual flair. The Big O will primarily appeal to kids who are fans of the Batman and Superman television series. The Cartoon Network began airing the series in 2001 in an edited format. This edition, featuring the first four episodes, is rated 13 and up for minor profanity, occasional suggestive humor, and mild violence.
