Unfortunately, written accounts of Polish research have relatively rarely been presented in English. The present notes have been assembled with the intention of commemorating the birth, and the birthplace, of one of the unusual examples of medieval art in Poland, discovered there seventeen years ago. The work of art under discussion would now be 800 years old, if the tentatively suggested dating of its origin2 by art historians is correct. The birthplace is the small provincial town of Wiślica. The town is northeast of Cracow[.] (...)
